It was Mardi Gras today here in Australia and on the ship. Some people took it quite seriously, wild outfits, beads, colorful masks, feathers. That might sound normal but for a bunch of 70-somethings...???? Thankfully, no one was shouting "show me.....".
It occurred to me that we're going to celebrate a lot of holidays and big events on this cruise: Mardi Gras, Easter, Passover, Superbowl, Australian Open and Valentines day, to name a few. It's the same yet different being on a floating city. We would normally be celebrating all of these with our kids and grand, and I of course miss that terribly. But on the positive side, everything is celebrated 10x bigger, 100x more people, 1000x more food 😉. So we'll enjoy each moment and savor the experience.
Today was a standard sea day. Little work, little work-out, little eating, little relaxing. I broke my salmon streak with chicken parm, which is inconsequential, but I was in a routine and I find it interesting that you get into routines even if you know it's temporary. There's comfort in a routine, no matter how spontaneous you want to be. And people love to hear about food, so here you go...
Tomorrow is arlie beach. Our first rainy port in 46 days and 16 ports. So not bad. I think I'll enjoy a lazy port day of just finding a sheltered venue to hang out in like a local. I'll let you know how it turns out. It's a tender port, meaning no dock, so smaller boats shuttle us back and forth. Those with walkers, scooters, and mobility issues need to stay on the ship. That's quite a few. So we won't overwhelm the port like we usually do. That's another interesting conversation for another day.
