Moreton Island Australia

It was a pleasant day by all accounts but there were no oooh's or aaah's. Moreton's claim to fame is that its the 3rd largest sand island in the world. All sand. Sand, sand sand. If you don't like sand, don't come here. If you like fine, white sand that envelopes your feet as you walk, making it both luxurious and 10x more exertive to walk, then this is your place. But other than a C-level resort, there's not much else here. There are only 250 inhabitants. It's close to Brisbane and it would seem that the majority of people staying here came over on the ferry for the day or a vacation with their 4wd cars. There are no paved roads, just sandy paths. Here's a pic of the cars lined up to leave.

There are no supermarkets, no shows, 2 ultra casual restaurants, so it's pretty much a flip flop, lay-on-the-beach kinda place. As a port of call, it was a break from the boat, but truthfully, we don't need a break from the ship. It's a floating city, and other than the absence of sand, it has everything we need for a relaxing day. So I spent about 4 hrs on the island, geocaching and people watching and then returned to the ship via the tender
Here's a montage of pics, lots of neat plant life, surprisingly given the lack of soil.
In the afternoon, I took a very infrequent nap, which felt great. I'm ready for a late evening.
Dinner was great, seafood, seafood, seafood. Crab, shrimp, scallops, salmon and snapper. Yummmm!
The show was a tribute to Karen Carpenter, which was so nostalgic, we've only just begun, sing a song, top of the world, close to you, rainy days and mondays..... it was a big sing-a-long. Now I'm writing this from the explorers lounge where they reenact game shows in the evenings...lots of audience participation.
And that's it. Easy blog port. Tomorrow's a sea day, then Arlie Beach and Cairns back to back. Till tomorrow.
