One of my favorite movies/plays is Fiddler on the Roof. Such a poignant view into the lives of religious Jews as they navigate the world changing around them. There are so many gems hidden amongst the lines, lyrics & melodies This particular song, Sunrise, Sunset, is performed at the wedding of Tzeitel, Tevye and Golde's eldest daughter. The two parents sing about how they can't believe their daughter and her groom have grown up, while Hodel and Perchik sing about whether there may be a wedding in the nearby future for them. A few of my favorite lines are "Sunrise, sunset (x2), Swiftly fly the years, One season following another, Laiden with happiness and tears" & "I don't remember growing older, When did they?" In other words, sunrises and sunsets mark the passing of days, years in fact, so subtly, almost unnoticed because they're there in the background of every day.
Sunrises and sunsets are important on a cruise too. They mark the passing of days, (44 of them already) AND they are also spectacular, dawning or setting over the vast ocean. Here are my favorites so far
The remainder of the day was a fairly standard sea day, including a formal night. I worked a bit, organized pics from Sydney, wrote the Sydney blog, and worked out for 1.5 hrs.
Tomorrow is moreton island off the coast of Brisbane. It's a very natural undisturbed island known for its sandy beaches. In fact, it's the 3rd largest sand island in the world. Not much to do there but relax and grab a few geocaches. Bring it on.
